The Moscow Times was the only newspaper represented at the Russian-American Business Summit, which participated in by Dmitry Medvedev and Barak Obama

On 7 July 2009 The Moscow Times published a special full colour issue of the newspaper, timed to coincide with the visit of Barak Obama to Moscow.

The newspaper was presented at the Russian-American Business Summit, which was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) at Manezh. The forum drew the participation of more than 700 key representatives of Russian and international business, the political elite and non-governmental organizations.

27,000 People Remain Without Heat

15 January 2003The Associated PressRegional authorities intensified efforts Tuesday to restore heating systems, but thousands of people were still shivering even as temperatures crept up in central and northern regions.

New dangers emerged as the Emergency Situations Ministry reported three major fires that have killed seven people in the past 24 hours. There were 88 fires in Moscow and the Moscow region, Interfax reported.

Cold, however, remained the major threat, and some 27,000 people remained without heat, Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov said.

One soldier in Rostov-on-Don died Tuesday and 50 servicemen in his unit were hospitalized with pneumonia after they forced last week to walk 3 kilometers to the barracks from a bathhouse when the temperature had dropped to minus 7 degrees Celsius.

However, there was relief in Moscow, where the mercury went up to about minus 4 on Tuesday. However, the cold was expected to return.
